Moville Pottery – Handmade Stoneware & Creative Experiences in Inishowen

Located in the heart of Moville on the Inishowen Peninsula, Moville Pottery is a long-established working ceramics studio and visitor attraction where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary Irish design. Founded in 1976 by renowned potter Lowry Wasson, the studio is still owned and run by Lowry Wasson and Brian McLaughlin. They have built a strong reputation for high-quality hand-thrown stoneware. Their work is inspired by the rugged beauty of Donegal’s coastline.

Today, Moville Pottery works as both a production studio and a welcoming retail space. In addition, visitors can enjoy creative experiences on site. One of the most popular is the Paint Your Own Pot workshop.

A Working Pottery Studio with a Rich Heritage

For over forty years, Moville Pottery has created handmade ceramics in its Moville workshop. Each piece is made individually. It is then glazed and fired on site. As a result, no two pieces are ever the same.

The studio makes a wide range of stoneware, including mugs, bowls, plates, vases, and custom pieces. Moreover, the designs reflect the Inishowen landscape. You will see coastal blues, soft greens, and natural earthy tones in many collections.

In addition, the studio supplies custom-made and branded dinnerware for hospitality clients. These products go to restaurants and businesses across Ireland and beyond.

What You Can Experience at Moville Pottery

A visit to Moville Pottery offers more than shopping. Instead, it gives visitors a real creative experience.

Visitors can:

  • Browse a wide range of handmade Irish ceramics
  • Watch pottery being made in the working studio
  • Buy unique gifts and locally made crafts
  • Take part in hands-on workshops, including the Paint Your Own Pot experience, pottery painting, and wheel throwing (subject to availability)

The on-site shop also stocks a curated selection of Irish and local crafts. Therefore, it is a popular stop for visitors exploring the Inishowen Peninsula.

Inspired by the Inishowen Landscape

Moville Pottery draws strong inspiration from its surroundings. The Atlantic coastline shapes much of its design style. In addition, the changing light and natural textures of Donegal influence colour and form.

Because of this, each collection feels closely connected to place. This gives Moville Pottery a strong and unique identity within Irish ceramics.

Paint Your Own Pot Experience

The Paint Your Own Pot workshop is one of the most popular activities at Moville Pottery. It is fun, relaxed, and suitable for all ages.

Visitors choose a ceramic piece. Then they decorate it using paints and simple design techniques inside the studio.

After finishing, the pottery team glazes and fires each piece on site. As a result, visitors take home a fully finished and durable keepsake.

This experience works especially well for families, couples, groups, and solo visitors. No experience is needed. In fact, beginners are very welcome.
