One of Donegal’s most popular visitor attractions has become even more accessible to international visitors.

Doagh Famine Village, located on the beautiful Isle of Doagh near Ballyliffin in Inishowen, has launched a new Multi-Language Visitor Experience, allowing guests to explore the village’s fascinating stories in up to ten different languages.

Visitors can now scan QR codes placed throughout the village and instantly access detailed information about each exhibition in their preferred language using their smartphone. Audio guides are also available in English, French and German, helping visitors immerse themselves in the stories and history of the village as they explore.

Founded by local historian and entrepreneur Pat Doherty, Doagh Famine Village offers a unique journey through Irish history, from the Great Famine right through to modern times. The attraction features authentic thatched cottages and engaging exhibitions covering emigration, rural life, the War of Independence, the Troubles and many other aspects of Irish life and culture.

The new digital interpretation system has also been designed with accessibility in mind. Audio content and high-contrast text options help ensure that more visitors, including those with visual impairments, can enjoy the experience independently.

This new system helps ensure that everyone can fully experience the village and understand the stories we are telling.“
