Burnfoot

Following the road from Burt to the village of Burnfoot, you will travel along an area which is known locally as the “Slablands”. The unusually flat land here is noteworthy as it was reclaimed from Lough Swilly at the end of the 19th Century; it remains one of the largest organic farms in Ireland today. Burnfoot – is the anglicised version of the name “Bun Na hAbhann” or “Foot of the River” and shows the Scottish influence locally, as “Burn”, a Scottish term for a small stream or rivulet. This is an excellent location to visit nearby Inch Wildfowl Reserve.
